You’re not alone!

Join the IGNITE Crew for our Monday Night Community Chat Groups! It’s your safe place to come together and meet new people just like you to chat about some of those challenges life tosses at us. Sometimes, just saying things out loud can help you figure things out.

Each group comes together, in-person, twice a month to chat about things that keep you up at night. Held at The Rock in the heart of the Phoenix LGBTQ+ Community, the groups are free and open to gay or bi men.

Watch the Southwest Center’s event calendar and IGNITE’s Facebook Page for any updates on meetup dates, times and locations.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What if I see someone I know?

An approach that often works is to simply be you. Greet them as you normally would and remember you’re in a safe, confidential group. What’s shared in the group – stays in the group. And if all the stars align, maybe it’ll give you a new way to connect with someone on a deeper level who you already kinda knew.

+ Is it really free?

You betcha! But, please try to support the businesses where we meet whenever you can. Grab a drink, bottle of water or enroll in a class to give back to the businesses. They’ve allowed us to meet in their spaces for FREE – and if it’s FREE for us, then it’s FREE for you. But give back when you can! Donations for The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS are also accepted.

+ Is this counseling or therapy?

Not at all. The spirit of these groups is to bring our community together to normalize conversations with like-minded people around social issues gay and bi men face that are….normal. Sometimes we just want to vent, sometimes we just want to hear other people’s stories, sometimes we just want to meet people going through the same thing and sometimes we wonder if we should be going to therapy or counseling about this. There will be an IGNITE facilitator at each group to just keep the conversation moving along. But these are your groups – so bring to it what you want. And if chatting it out is enough to help you work through some issues – awesome! Keep coming back! But if you feel like you need to dig a little deeper, then we have some great resources we can refer you to, like the Southwest Center's Counseling and Therapy services.

+ Do I have to talk or contribute?

Well, it’s a chat group – so eventually, we hope you’re looking to chime in a little. But if you need to keep hearing others’ stories to get the courage to speak up, then we totally respect that! Sometimes it takes a bit to say something out loud – all you’ll need to say is “Maybe Next Week” and there’ll be no questions asked. Remember, these groups work best when there’s some great participation!

+ Are there specific topics? What do we talk about?

The facilitator may toss a topic out to the group to keep the conversation rolling, but once the ball is moving, it’ll develop and flow organically with the group, in the direction you want it to go. Respect is key and non-negotiable, so please be respectful of other group members. There will be a lot of varying experiences and stories – but this isn’t the place for rights, wrongs, or judgement. It’s a place to be heard, to listen and offer a hand to your fellow community members.
